Chapter 2... “So are you always this good at navigating or is this just today’s specialty?” Anya grinned at Haldir and leaned against the moss covered trunk of a tree. “It’s not my fault you got us all turned around Anya.” “Whatever you say.” She let out a short laugh and sank to the ground. “Well I guess we’re stuck here for the night since the sun is about to set.” Haldir scowled and sat down next to her. “I swear we were going the right direction.” “Yeah whatever you say.” She tossed a stick off into the woods and they sat in silence for awhile. The sounds of birds and crickets chirping filled the empty air between them and the wind made the leaves rustle and dance above their heads. The sun sank down behind the tips of the snow capped mountains in the distance and the sky faded from dark pink to star speckled black. The gates were closed now and they were stranded in the woods alone... together. After 20 minutes of the silence Haldir slowly stood and began climbing the tree they’d been leaning against. “What are you doing?” Anya stood and watched as he climbed. “It’d be easier to protect you if we weren’t on the ground with all the things that want us dead.” Haldir reached a large branch and motioned for her to follow. She climbed up and sat on the limb next to him. “Alright fine. I hope for your sake this works so my father doesn’t completely want to kill you.” Haldir rolled his eyes and handed her a blanket. “Just make yourself comfortable and go to sleep.” “Yes sir.” Haldir spent the the next 3 hours watching the ground while Anya pretended to sleep. Eventually he started to dose off and she snuck out of the tree and found her way back to the gates. She climbed the gate and snuck up to her room without anyone noticing and went to sleep.
Randomly bought this book on Christmas and it's one of the best I've read in a while. Cute and romantic but totally freaky and twisted at the same time. Perfect for a weirdo like me :)
